Chesapeake is a city on the Atlantic coast in the U.S. state of Virginia. This city is the home of a famous Rairoad Co.: C and O. Again this city becomes a donator with a small orthographic change. CHESSapeak Challenge is not only a successful Play on words BUT also a successful challenge of 4 Player Chess. Chess boards with 3 row wings on Each player's side have been designed numerous times dating back to 1784. In CHESSapeak CHALLENGE there is no change to the type of moves made by the power pieces. Only the Knight has a bigger range to cover. An option to expand the Knight's type of moves could be adopted; however, this may cause a loss of mobility in close combat. Considerable technical progress has been made by the introduction of 2 diagonal Demarcation lines where pawns must turn off to the right or off to the left. This way one avoids the usual dilemma of allied Pawns blocking each other. The way to the opponent's Base line by the corner Pawns is shortened by 5 squares, whereas the other Pawns instead gain on speed. To WIN you must checkmate both opponents' Kings OR stalemate one opponent while checkmating the other opponent. Note: The first checkmated King of each "partner pair" takes either the Queen and all the Pawns into exile OR he leaves the Pawns and one each of the remaining power pieces, what ever is more advantageous (in both cases the King is exiled).
In a game where everyone is against everyone, the Pawns can either pass the demarcation lines or they can turn right (when on right half of player's game board). Note: once the "turn or no-turn" decision is made, it is fixed. When the moves are made on the left side of the player's board, the same logical rules follow. In the "individual play" situation a Checkmate results in removal of all pieces in this set. CHESSAPEAK CHALLENGE game has been called the "Original". The picture on the left is the inventor J. Bruce Jones sitting beside the "Tourney" model. He was a computer systems design analyst at MIT Laboratories during NASA's Apollo program. Also, he was a college teacher and a Management Consultant.
