There are 6 types of movements for Pawns: ordinary advance, initial (optional) advance, 90 degree change of direction, capture, capture en passant, and promotion.

Ordinary advance, a Pawn moves one square forward.

Initial (optional) advance, on a Pawn's first move (only) it can move one square forward or up to the square below the double demarcation lines.

A2 & H2 can move one square only. B2 & G2 can move one or two squares.
C2 & F2 can move one or three squares. D2 & E2 can move one or four squares.

90 degree change of direction, when a Pawn enters (or moves beyond) the square with the double lines it changes direction to the right or left ... away from the double lines.
